DH Winter School

Our 3rd DH Winter School will be held in Pune from 12-13 December 2018.

Digital Humanities, a field which explores the intersection of the Humanities and digital technology, offers innovative opportunities for research, teaching, and praxis. The DH Winter School will give participants an introduction to the field, and to selected theoretical approaches, digital research methods and digital pedagogies.

SPEAKERS & SCHEDULE
Dr Dhanashree Thorat (Institute for Digital Research in the Humanities, University of Kansas) is the lead organizer of the Winter School. Details about invited speakers and schedule will be uploaded soon. These are the confirmed sessions at this year’s DH Winter School:

  • Digital Archiving (with Omeka)
  • Digital Mapping
  • Digital Pedagogy
  • The DH Job Market

The Winter School will begin with an introductory session on the state of the field. Most of the sessions will be workshop style and hands-on. No prior knowledge of new media technologies is expected.

PARTICIPATION
The DH Winter School is open to participants at different levels of their academic career, and from diverse disciplines. We hope that this event will also enable participants to network with other DH scholars in India. Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

The registration fees are: for teachers – Rs 2000/- and for students Rs 1500/-. Registration includes lunch, tea/coffee, and printed material. Registration will open shortly.

VENUE
The conference will be held at the MDC, YASHADA located approximately 500 mtrs from Pune University Main Gate, on Baner Road, Aundh, Pune 411007. MDC is a premier state-of-the-art conference center in central part of Pune city. The auditorium, conference rooms, guest rooms and dining hall are air-conditioned, comfortable and equipped with computers, LCD and sound system.

 

ACCOMMODATION
The organizers will not provide accommodation. Pune has a variety of hotel options, and participants are advised to book accommodation at their own discretion and well in advance.

The tariff of these hotels is moderate and works out cheaper if there are two occupants. All the four hotels are located in good localities and with all the normal facilities. A limited number of beds on sharing basis (in two/three-bed rooms) are available in Gokhale Institute Guest House. We recommend this facility, especially for student participants. TRANSPORT
The nearest major international airport is Mumbai. K.K. Travels offers airport pickups from Mumbai, and drop-offs at your choice of location in Pune (or vice versa). Their shared vehicles are available around the clock. Booking can be made online (www.kktravels.com) or over phone(+91-20-24224267/24223839; cell: +91-9890779977). The distance from Mumbai Airport to Pune is 160 kms and it takes three hours to cover it.

 

Participants arriving at the Pune Airport (domestic) can take pre-paid taxi or book an Ola/Uber cab or take a Radio Wings Cab (+91-20-40100100). Participants arriving in Pune by Train can disembark at Pune Railway Station and take an autorickshaw.

 

For transport within the city, participants can book Ola, Uber or Radiowings cabs or take the typical Pune autorickshaw that are parked almost at every corner. Most of the cabs can be booked by using credit/debit cards, rickshaw drivers will accept only cash.
